King County Launches Online Coronavirus Tracking Map

SEATTLE, WA — King County has unveiled a new data dashboard which they will use to post the latest statistics, graphs and maps tracking the coronavirus as it spreads across the county. Public Health - Seattle and King County says the new dashboard will make much more information available to the public so they can stay more informed about how many people are being tested, where the most cases are being confirmed and more.

The new site can be found here, and will update with the latest information every day between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Once on the dashboard, users can see a variety of data, including how many tests are coming back positive, growth trends and which zip codes are reporting the most new cases of the virus. The data can also be accessed by mobile devices.

There are a few inconsistencies in the data users will want to be aware of. Public health says some labs are delayed in reporting data, so some cases may take up to two or three days to be correctly reported. As a result, sometimes the dashboard's automated graphs will show that cases are trending downward, when in fact the number of coronavirus cases is still growing. In that situation, public health says users should look to the total case count and its rate increase to get a better look at how the virus is really spreading. Generally, the dashboard will have a timestamp showing when they received the most recent data, so users can tell how up to-date their information is.
