Central Washington national forest: C'mon over but keep to yourself
The four-million-acre Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, on the east slope of the Cascades, has delivered a very nuanced invitation: Come on over but keep to yourself.
The ranger stations and restrooms are closed, so are the fee-paying campgrounds and major trailheads, but there is still plenty of roaming and camping available. In words of the national forest:
"Trails and undeveloped areas remain open in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Rumors have been circulating that national forest lands are completely shut down through September 30 -- that's completely not true."
"What is open: Trails, dispersed camping and most roads. (A caveat is given that in this early season, trails may be muddy and snow covered.) What is closed: Developed recreation sites, like pay-to-stay campgrounds; trailheads; ranger stations and rest rooms are closed while the Governor's stay-at-home order is in place."
