Ultraconservative Republican State Rep. Matt Shea does not file for reelection
State Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley, linked to domestic terrorism in an investigation sponsored by House colleagues, did not file for reelection by the deadline Friday afternoon.
Shea was first elected to the Legislature in 2008, and has lately kept a high profile by leading protests against Gov. Jay Inslee's "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" emergency order that has countered spread of the novel coronavirus in Washington state.
Democrats have sought to link Shea with other Republicans. They may have lost a target on Friday afternoon. Still, Democratic State Chair Tina Podlodowski responded with a post, "Yeah, I'm going to have that glass of wine now"
Shea has long been linked to the militia movement, and tracts on preparing for religious war. He helped plan and participated in domestic terrorism during the armed occupation of Oregon's Malheur 'National Wildlife Refuge, a the House-commissioned investigation concluded in a 108-page report last December.
