Kitsap County Fair and Stampede canceled until 2021

There will be no bucking broncos, no demolition derby, and no carnival rides at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in August.

Kenneth Bagwell, president of the Kitsap Fair and Stampede Association, notified the county on Tuesday that it was canceled. He said in a letter that it was a difficult decision, and one the board held out on making for as long as it could.

The Kitsap Fair and Stampede transitioned into a nonprofit organization last year rather than being organized by the county parks department.

“I never could have imagined that in our first year as an organization we would be faced with a hurdle as significant or as unprecedented as the COVID-19 pandemic,” Bagwell said in a letter to Kitsap County parks director Jim Dunwiddie.
