More than 120 students living in or tied to the University of Washington's fraternity houses have tested positive for Covid-19.
The cases, as reported by KUOW, include 112 students who live in the residences.
In a statement on the outbreak, UW officials said the school is conducting its own testing and verification as it works to solve discrepancies in the case counts. Some 1,300 tests were conducted as of last weekend, the school said.
The number has soared since June 30, when 38 tests came back positive.
Dr. Geoffrey Gottlieb, chair of UW's Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases, said the numbers indicate how quickly the numbers can skyrocket. Gottlieb's group is involved in the response to the outbreak, according to UW.
The Greek houses are independent organizations governed by national boards.
