Bremerton ferry service was cut in half one year ago. Riders are still waiting

For Manette’s Eric Morley, Washington State Ferries’ dramatic service cuts on its Bremerton-Seattle run over the last year have resulted in some sizable life changes.

Morley’s partner pivoted to taking Kitsap Transit’s fast ferry in to work in the city, but the more expensive fare means that more dollars are going to commuting. And now they don’t spend evenings at bars or restaurants or at the theater in the city and have lost connections there. Morley has driven to Bainbridge Island for pickups when ferries get canceled or run late.

“He’s very frequently home late from work, which has cut down on our social life, just times to have dinner and when we get to eat together,” Morley said. “We have literally lost friendships in Seattle, we don’t see friends from Seattle anymore and don’t speak to them.”

He’s frustrated by what he’s seen as a lack of action from legislators: "They're not even proposing any alternatives on how to make this better."
