Earthquake felt in parts of Pierce, Thurston counties on Wednesday. Here's what we know

Feb. 7—A 3.0 earthquake was detected Wednesday morning in the Mount Rainier area.

The low-level earthquake hit about 11:11 a.m. The earthquake was closest to Packwood at about 12 miles away, according to the the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program. The quake also was detected in Graham, Enumclaw and Olympia, the USGS reported.

No injuries or property damage were initially reported.

Mount Rainier is the most seismically active volcano in the Washington and Oregon Cascades. There are about three to four earthquakes in an average month within four miles of the Mount Rainier summit. That includes several seismic events that have been felt within Mount Rainier National Park, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
