King County Housing Authority To Resume Section 8 Voucher Program

http://www.kcha.org/

The King County Housing Authority (KHCA) announced yesterday that it will be resuming its Section 8 voucher program. This comes as a result of sequestration relief provided by the recently-passed omnibus appropriations bill and the budget deal reached by Senator Patty Murray and Representative Paul Ryan. This is great news! The Section 8 voucher program offers essential assistance to King County’s lowest-income individuals and families to rent private apartments. Due to sequestration, the KHCA lost an estimated $6.3 million in funding last year and was unable to issue Section 8 rental assistance vouchers to families on its general waiting list.

I am very pleased to see this program restored. I supported both the budget and appropriations deals knowing that sequestration relief would offer the opportunity for critical programs such as Section 8 vouchers to continue again. I will continue to work to fight against sequestration so essential programs like this can provide the necessary assistance to improve people’s lives.
