This was the only progressive talk radio station in the Spokane area.
I tune in today and it's been changed to a robo Classic Country station.
Weak.

(6,119 posts)I gave up all hope for terrestrial radio years ago where I live. I survive on a bit of NPR news and mostly podcasts.

(32,047 posts)and progressive talk radio in a highly republican part of the US is VERY rare.

(75,480 posts)The good news is that the programs you liked to listen to can be streamed on your computer on either UStream or Live Stream. Also, there is Sirius and XM radio for your car. Yes, it's another way to marginalize liberals, but they can't shut you off altogether. btw, does Spokane really need another Country station? That is truly a move to shut out liberal talk and information.

(531 posts)Then again, I don't really like country music so I don't know how many we already have.
I know I can stream liberal radio on my computer, but I liked being able to listen to it in my car. I know I can subscribe to Sirius or XM, but I'm simply not going to do that. I have 5 year old twin boys, so I'd rather use my spendable income on fun stuff to do with them instead of satellite radio. I have my iPod for music, and I can't see paying $15/month (or whatever the rate is) for one station that I might get to listen to for (give or take) 5 hours a week.
It's clearly an attempt to silence liberals, and I don't like it.

(2 posts)I thought I was losing my mind, I too would turn into Stephanie Miller on the way to work and listen to Randi Rhodes on the way home. Then there is just country music. I wonder which big money silenced them, would love to know.

(2 posts)I kept scanning thinking I must of hit a wrong station or something. I am pretty mad.
I heard it's a company owned by Romney money and it conveniently and quietly disappeared.
I'm very disappointed. Why can't we have a progressive station?? What a bunch of bullies!

(15,882 posts)from the beautiful Whitopia of Coeur d'Alene, ID, gets Rush Limbaugh on at least 2 stations.
People here drive, a lot, back and forth between the two cities, with a lot of drive time radio, so now there is nothing to carry the liberal message.
Dumb.
Lakoff says part of how people's political ideas are shaped and reinforced is the constant repetition of principles. Since that leaves us with only radical right ideas, those will be the ones reinforced, which increases the likelihood that people's thinking will be framed from a radical right perspective. If true that could have quite an impact on schools, school boards, and other political efforts going forward.
It would seem that at least one Democratic whale might purchase a station and sell it to a democratically-run cooperative (like the Basque Cooperatives, maybe?) some of our more progressive residents, let them just feed liberal shows 24x7. Business plan time.
Can you imagine the staff meetings
Or maybe we could crowd-source a donation big enough to start a low-power station, see if we can get any growth. Without greedy bastards at the helm it might provide a few jobs, or at least some that don't require you to go out and screw people with low-income for a living.
Time for coffee, and talk...

(2,535 posts)That the dictatorship happening in MI was selling off all the local radio station equipment ~ along with the license for $1000 on EBay. Someone shoulda bought it ~ or maybe it is still for sale. Jesse Jackson used to join in with the legally elected mayor on it for a weekly show until those pigs took over with the blessings of their governor.
Rebublicans are cruel and hypocritical idiots!
