Nick Hanauer calls out Spokane senator for killing Washington minimum wage bill
Senator Michael Baumgartner who Hanauer calls out has also pushed to make Washington a right to work state. I tried to embed Hanauer's tweet but that format does not work on DU. What he said is in bold font.
Strategic thinking by R's like SenBaumgartner". There's only 1 way to compete: race to the bottom. Then they ask "Why are we poor?"
Prominent Seattle entrepreneur and activist Nick Hanauer has never been known as a wallflower and on Tuesday evening, he took to social media to rail against a decision that could affect thousands of Washington workers.
"If you're a WA State progressive, you love this guy @SenBaumgartner. Now, better politics for D's in 16," Hanauer tweeted.
He called for "$16 in 16," a hint that the minimum wage debate is clearly not over.
On Tuesday, Sen. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, killed a bill that would have raised Washington's minimum wage to $12 per hour. Washington state already has one of the highest minimum wages in the country, at $9.47 per hour. Many argue, however, that is not high enough to support a family in much of the state.
Baumgartner is the chairman of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, where the bill was being reviewed. The committee declined to send the bill to the Senate floor for a vote.
