Big SEattle Happy Birthday Medicare and Social Security event 8/8

Please see the message below from our friends at the Washington Community Action Network about the huge birthday celebration for Social Security and Medicare on August 8 in Seattle.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Burke Stansbury, Center for Community Change Action

---------

On Saturday, August 8 the Puget Sound will celebrate a historic national anniversary. Medicare turns 50 and Social Security turns 80 this year! These two bedrock social insurance programs have been the most successful anti-poverty measures our country has seen.

Medicare has made it possible for senior citizens to see a doctor and fill a prescription. Social Security has served as a safety net for retirees, people with disabilities and children who have lost their parents. These programs have evolved and become vital to the fabric of American life. Yet, the threat to cut these benefits remains constant.

We encourage you to show your support for Medicare and Social Security and mark this important anniversary at our rally on Saturday, August 8 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Westlake Plaza in Seattle.
