Privacy my ass

A common misconception in Washington is that if someone "runs your plate" through an online service, you will be "notified." The implication is that this notification will inform you who ran the plate and, thus, will keep the various nuts and stalkers from doing this lest you find out. However, the fact is that, while you are notified, the state shields the troublemaker. You are forbidden from finding out who did it.
