Trump order hits Microsoft employees and other Seattle-area immigrants
At least 76 Microsoft employees are affected by President Donald Trump's new immigration restrictions, Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith said.
Trump on Friday signed an executive order including a 90-day ban on admissions and reentry into the U.S. for non-citizens from predominantly Muslim countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen.
It's not clear whether all of the Microsoft employees are in the U.S. and can't leave without fear of being blocked upon return, or if any are abroad and will need intervention to return. Microsoft could not be reached for more information.
The order no doubt affects countless other Seattle-area businesses and their employees. Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee and other elected officials gathered to blast the executive order at Sea-Tac International Airport, saying federal authorities there have detained traveling families, including one with a family member who works at the airport.
