Seattle-area members of Congress slam Trump immigration order except for one

Puget Sound-region members of Congress blasted President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration as Seattle-area businesses try to make sense of the directive.

The one exception was U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert. The Auburn Republican criticized the "mass confusion" and "improper apprehension of people legally allowed to be in the U.S" in a statement, but did not condemn the order as fiercely as some of his congressional colleagues.

"I urge the administration to work with Congress on solutions that protect our borders while maintaining our nation’s dedication to compassion and religious freedom,” Reichert said Sunday.

Reichert spokeswoman Breanna Deutsch on Monday did not say whether her boss generally supports or opposes Trump's order.

....voicing my displeasure. Reichert is a tool, plain and simple. He got WAY TOO MUCH MILEAGE out of the Green River Killer investigation and arrest.

"Reichert spokeswoman Breanna Deutsch on Monday did not say whether her boss generally supports or opposes Trump's order." OH FUCKING PLEASE. If the rethuglican power meisters told Reichert to get down on the floor and bark like a dog, his only question would be: "which breed?".

Rep. Denny Heck joins legislative effort to reverse unconstitutional executive order which bars entry of law-abiding, vetted refugees and immigrants

| Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Upon returning to the nation’s capital, Congressman Denny Heck (WA-10) added his support to three bills that prevent President Trump’s harmful executive order from being administered by the United States government.

If passed, the Statue of Liberty Values Act (SOLVe Act) would prevent the executive order from having any force of law and prohibit any federal funds or fees from being used to carry it out. The Freedom of Religion Act states that the United States could not bar foreigners from coming to the United States on the basis of their religious beliefs. The No Religious Registration Act would stop the government from creating or using a database of religious affiliation for the purpose of surveillance or of classifying U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and visa seekers.

“These bills reflect long-standing American values laid down in the First Amendment,” Heck said. “What President Trump’s Administration is attempting to do is un-American and cruel, and I know both Republicans and Democrats do not agree with this blatant violation of the right to the free exercise of religion.

“Furthermore, our men and women in uniform rely on many Muslim allies in the ongoing fight against terror around the world. To turn our backs on programs and policies that encourage collaboration with our Muslim friends and partners, and to discriminate based on their religion and place of birth, would render us less safe.

“I thank the people of the 10th Congressional District for speaking out and demanding that this discriminatory executive order be reversed.”

Heck previously cosponsored the Freedom of Religion Act and the No Religious Registration Act in the 114th Congress (2015-2016).

Full text of the executive order is available on whitehouse.gov. Original text of the Constitution of the United States and an explanation of each section is available at senate.gov.

he actually botched the investigation. He allowed the killer to go on murdering young women for nearly another 20 years.

Reichert was so focused on his ornery cab driver, that they let Ridgway go, allowing him to continue his killing spree for 18 more years, until someone in the Sheriffs office — not Reichert — took the initiative to DNA-test a near two-decades old saliva sample.

Had I been Reichert at the moment that DNA test crossed my desk, suddenly confronted with the reality that my own incompetence had led to the deaths of innumerable women, I would have been heartbroken... distraught... wracked with guilt. But Sheriff Dave, he snapped on his dress uniform, posed for the cameras, and rode that tragedy all the way to Congress.
