State Sen. Ericksen, Trump backer, goes to EPA

Veteran state Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale, who co-chaired the Trump campaign in Washington, has been appointed "senior adviser" to the Region X (Northwest-Alaska) administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The news started to get out Friday when a Bellingham environmentalist called EPA, asked for Ericksen and was put through to his office. The appointment was later confirmed in the Bellingham Herald.

The federal job almost certainly means Ericksen must resign from the Legislature. He has, since 2013, chaired the Senate's Energy and Environment Committee, blocking Gov. Jay Inslee's "polluters pay" agenda, and defending the shipment of oil by rail across the state to refineries in his district.

The Washington State Constitution carried an unambiguous clause:

"No person, being a member of Congress or holding any civil or military office under the United States or any other power, shall be eligible to be a member of the Legislature."

Sounds like he'll fit right in with the Trump misadministration.

Multiple councils if his district crosses county lines. Replacement has to be from the same party.
