Active shooter search along SR 509 near Sea-Tac Airport

Washington State Patrol is searching for an “active shooter” in an area near the Sea-Tac Airport after four vehicles were fired upon traveling on State Route 509. A second burst of gunfire has been reported since the initial incident.

The shooter remains at large.

The four cars were hit by bullets at around 1:30 p.m. near Des Moines Memorial Drive and South 160th Street, at the south end of Sea-Tac Airport. Both directions of SR 509 have been closed. WSP is investigating the “active shooter incident” and is recommending that drivers stay away from the area. A SWAT team from Renton has been called to the site along with K-9 units. King County Sheriff’s Guardian One helicopter is in the air above the scene.

“About 30-35 minutes ago there were additional shots fired,” Trooper Rick Johnson said at around 3:50 p.m.

Johnson said investigators are talking with witnesses and working to clarify the timeline of events.

My brother commutes to Seattle, but he takes the train. The rest of my family is all right or I would have heard something by now.
