Study: Snoqualmie is the safest city in Washington

When it comes to safety, Washington state is pretty middle-of-the-road in the United States.

The state as a whole experiences 2.82 violent crimes per 1,000 residents on average, and 32.67 property crimes per 1,000 residents, making it the 19th safest for violent crime and 34th safest for property crime, according to a new study by Alarms.org.

Both statewide rates are below the national averages -- at 3.47 violent crimes and 40.43 property crimes per 1,000 residents, respectively. (Violent crimes include such offenses as murder, manslaughter, rape and robbery. Property crimes include burglary, theft and arson.)

But which cities are the safest in the Evergreen State?

As one might expect, none of the state's largest cities are in the top 10. Most are in the western Washington, with some in the center of the state.

Snoqualmie, the city ranked the safest, has a notably low violent crime rate at 0.147 per 1,000 residents, though second-place Oak Harbor had by far the lowest property crime rate at 7.959 per 1,000 residents.
