The sun is shining, spring has sprung -- so your studded tires better be gone by Monday
It's not always easy to tell when spring has hit Seattle. But this weekend is filled with plenty of signs that the season has officially changed: the sun is shining, the cherry blossoms are out, and state law officially says that your tires must not have studs on them.
Sunday March 31 marks the deadline for snow tire removal in 2019 in Oregon and Washington. In Washington, hose driving with studded tires after Sunday could receive a $136 traffic infraction.
Oregon drivers with studded tires will be charged with a Class C traffic violation. That punishment may carry fines of up to $170.
Though there has been a lot of snow relatively late in the winter season this year, the Washington State Department of Transportation says it will not extend the deadline as it has done in years past.
And that law applies to all drivers in the state, residents and visitors alike.
