Opioid guidelines must stay -- Ferguson, AGs tell Trump administration
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will endanger lives if it goes ahead with a proposal to eliminate guidelines for prescribing opioids, at a time when the addictive pain killers kill Americans, 38 state attorneys general told the Trump Administration.
Guidelines were developed by the Centers for Disease Control three years ago, aiming to curb the over-prescribing of opioids, and provide health care providers with a framework for prescribing drugs that easily become addictive.
"In the midst of an epidemic that kills tens of thousands of Americans every year, it is unconscionable to minimize the dangers of opioids and return to the days of unrestrained prescribing," said Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
The bipartisan letter was drawn up by Ferguson and Montana's conservative Republican Attorney General Tim Fox.
