Amazon To Move Thousands Of Top Jobs To Bellevue

BELLEVUE, WA — Bellevue will be home to some of Amazon's top leaders by 2023, according to a GeekWire report. The company will move its worldwide operations team, bringing potentially thousands of Amazon jobs across Lake Washington.

GeekWire obtained an email from Amazon Senior Vice President Dave Clark describing the move. Amazon has confirmed the authenticity of that email.

"I’m excited to share the news that we’re planning to migrate worldwide operations to Bellevue starting this year. This move gives room to grow while maintaining the campus feel that we’ve come to love around South Lake Union," Clark wrote according to GeekWire.

There are still more than 45,000 Amazon jobs in Seattle, the company has said.

Amazon's desire to move a key team to Bellevue will not affect the company's plans to have at least 55,000 employees in Seattle by 2020.

The company confirmed that it plans to move local employees from its worldwide operations team from Bellevue to Seattle by 2023. The worldwide operations team, which handles customer fulfillment and transportation, has employees across the globe who will remain in their respective offices.

Amazon remains on track to add more than 2 million square feet of office space in Seattle, and recent building permits applications show millions are being spent on upgrades and expansions to Amazon's other office buildings.

Recent building permit applications filed with the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections include a $9 million project to expand space for an "online retail company" in Amazon's Blackfoot office at 1918 Eighth Ave., a $5.6 million improvement at 1260 Mercer Street listing "AP" as the tenant (Amazon Prime has an office in the building), and a $2.26 million upgrade at West Eighth that lists Amazon facilities manager Bella Colthurst.
