Detectives investigating early morning homicide in Seattle's University District

Police began a homicide investigation Monday morning after the Seattle Fire Department found the body of a man at a bus stop in the 4500 block of University Way Northeast.

Seattle Fire responded to a call about the body at about 4:30 a.m., Detective Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Department said in a statement. When they got to the scene and found he was dead, they called police.

Detectives learned the victim had been near a fight earlier at the same location, Jamieson said. He did not say whether the man was involved in the fight with several others, but did say he appeared to be assaulted.

There hadn't been confirmation on whether the fight and his death were connected, as detectives were still looking into it.

The investigation blocked traffic on the southbound lanes of University Way Northeast from about 5 to 8:45 a.m., according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.
