Wisconsin pro-choice groups say 2014 is the year they go on offense

On the 41st anniversary of the historic U.S. Supreme Courts Roe vs. Wade decision, pro-choice advocates are calling attention to the rollback in access and overall reproductive care under Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walkers administration.
Walker took office in 2011. Since then, at least 11 policy changes through eight laws have been passed that limit womens access to sex education, birth control, cancer screens, equal pay and abortion services.
The flurry of new laws has made Wisconsin a leader in the passage of pro-life legislation nationally along with states like Texas and Arizona.
Unfortunately, under Walker, the state of Wisconsin has been destructive to reproductive health, said Jenni Dye, director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. From forced ultrasounds to attempts to shutter abortion providers with medically unnecessary requirements, attacks on safe and legal access to reproductive healthcare are rampant........................

A nurse practitioner appearing in Emily's List ad against Gov. Scott Walker and his anti-abortion record.
Emily's List has engaged in the Wisconsin governor's race on behalf of Democrat Mary Burke with this ad featuring a nurse practitioner talking about Gov. Scott Walker's attempts to restrict abortion. Here's the text:
Meg, Nurse Practitioner: "I don't like anybody getting between me and my patients. So I was outraged when I found out Scott Walker quietly signed a law, trying to restrict doctors from performing abortions. Scott Walker wants to make all abortions illegal, even in cases of rape and incest. Look, this is one of the toughest decisions a woman has to make. It's not up to politicians like Scott Walker. Scott Walker needs to get out of my patients' private lives, out of my examining room, and just leave women alone."................

Screenshot from Gov. Scott Walker's ad, "Decision."
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker addresses abortion in a new ad that's simple and understated.
It's a direct response to increased involvement of the pro-choice political action committee EMILY's List in the governor's race.
The ad takes a different tone from other Walker spots: there's no music and no mention of Democratic challenger Mary Burke as the governor addresses the camera.
"Hi, I'm Scott Walker. I'm pro-life," he says. "But theres no doubt in my mind the decision of whether or not to end a pregnancy is an agonizing one. Thats why I support legislation to increase safety and to provide more information for a woman considering her options. The bill leaves the final decision to a woman and her doctor. Now, reasonable people can disagree on this issue. Our priority is to protect the health and safety of all Wisconsin citizens."........

(4,440 posts)Once again, Walker is outright lying. Providing information and safe practices is a doctors job. Nobody needs politicians making rules when it comes to deciding what to do. If Walker really had the courage to speak his mind he'd just come out and admit he wants to stop abortions, regardless of circumstances.

(70,218 posts)Been listening to the Texas abortion clinics closing down. The Repugs say the same.
Doctors are allowing them to do it. I really do not see much opposition from them. Sure, they make statements but they go no where.
