MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A new poll says Democrat Tammy Baldwin has the edge in becoming Wisconsin's next U.S. senator -- unless Tommy Thompson's her final opponent.
48 percent of the 716 registered voters polled by the Marquette Law School said they prefer the former Republican governor, to 44 percent for House Democrat Baldwin.
But the poll said Baldwin would defeat 2 other Republican hopefuls -- former Congressman Mark Neumann 44-40 percent, and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald 48-42. Also, the poll said only Thompson has any real statewide name recognition with just over 8 months until Election Day.
44 percent gave Thompson a favorable rating, and only 18 percent said they didn't know enough about ex-governor to form an opinion. But 55 percent said they were not sure what to think about Fitzgerald yet. And 50 percent didn't know enough about Newmann -- even though he ran a statewide primary for governor last year and finished behind Scott Walker.
Also, Baldwin has some work to do in the name recognition department. 49 percent in the Marquette poll said they didn't know about her as the lone Democratic hopeful to replace Herb Kohl in November.

Looks like my money will be going to Tammy's campaign. She's gonna need it.

(53,475 posts)... when people are reminded of Tommy's foibles they'll abandon him. He has dirt everywhere, from screwing his secretaries to shady deals with the road builders. He can't take the heat.

(4,949 posts)Marquette Law School is notably ranked at the bottom of top 100 law schools and in previous years
wasn't even ranked. 716 as an "N" is not a large sample and it doesn't even reveal where these voters
were from. What statistics were used to give this piece of propaganda?? This so called "poll" cannot be used to predict the
future outcome of any election.
This article itself is poorly written with a Repub bias.
But I think it's a reflection of the Repuke IQ level (IMHO)

I haven't had time to review the method and internals so I'll refrain from comment for now other than to say that polls 9 months out from an election are meaningless.

(4,949 posts)The only reason anyone would do so would be to mind f**k the general public.
All Marquette should be ashamed of itself! This will contribute to lowering it's rankings even further.
Not that I care; I hope they dig a deep enough hole that they never get out.

(3,577 posts)Probably not Tommy, the train-loving moderate who has his work cut out to make them think he's conservative enough.

To put it bluntly, I see a lot of stupid where I live (it isn't Madison), and I don't think Tammy talking to that "demographic" is going to change their "minds". We aren't exactly the smartest state on the block...
