Wisconsin State Government has $$ for overtime and to hire temp staff to process requests on time.

It's true. The DOJ has plenty of money to pay overtime and hire extra staff, and has been efficiently processing concealed carry permits in three weeks or less, most under a week.

The Green Bay Press Gazette has the story.

In December, the DOJ pulled 24 employees from other units to help the firearms unit process applications. The department also asked employees to work overtime and some weekends. Some applications were delayed by as many as five days.

The state required applications submitted between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1 to be processed within 45 days. Applications submitted after Dec. 1 must be processed within 21 days.

The addition of 11 part-time employees to the firearms unit in January helped alleviate the backlog of applications, Brueck said.

I guess it's all about priorities. I seem to recall the private business that they contracted to dole out food stamps is woefully behind in processing applications.

Don't blame the bureaucracy for attempting to comply with the law.

This is just a way get Gander Mountain to hire more clerks. This state really needs to go into overtime to get those weapons permits out there 2 weeks faster.
And if that means cutting Badgercare and Seniorcare healthcare for poor children, women and the aged, let's just keep in mind the real priorities of this very dangerous state.
