So I voted for Richard Nixon and his great unsubstantiated promises.

And then I regretted for the next fifty years that I was too lazy to learn that Humphrey was one of our nation's greatest and most progressive Senators who just happened to be fat.

And regretted for the next fifty years to ignore Nixon's already then-known record of corruption. (History has also since proven he had committed criminal treason against the United States that summer of 1968 when he secretly sabotaged a pending peace agreement with the North Vietnamese.)

So since then I have taken the voting process much more seriously.

I will never make that same mistake again with Hillary Rodham Clinton. I've taken the time to know exactly who she is and what she has done.

Bernie Sanders has been one of our nation's greatest politicians - for the same fifty years I have lived with my regrets. My regrets are stopping here.

This balloon perfectly captures Hillary's warmongering and the fact that neocon founder Robert Kagan endorsed her for President---

"Hillary Clinton: Soaring to new, dangerous heights while taking unsuspecting Americans along for the ride."

Before I got out of bed this morning, my wife asked: "Why do they hate Hillary Clinton so much?"

Although I voted in the primary for Bernie Sanders, my senator from Vermont, I don't dislike Clinton in the least. Quite the opposite. I will happily vote for her in November.

She is an admirable public servant, despite her obvious flaws, which are mostly the consequence of her decades in positions of authority. Every coin has two sides.

....As for Wall Street: The financial industry has supplied roughly 3.9% of Clinton's funding, or 7% if you count money from related PACs. She did, of course, make a fair number of speeches to big banks -- though by no means did the bulk of her income as a speaker derive from those speeches.

And what did Wall Street get for its money? Not much.

In the Senate, she voted for TARP, the Bush plan to bail out the banks. But this was a wise move, in my view, helping to rescue an economy in free fall. She argued from the floor: "For two years, I and others have called for action as wave after wave of defaults and foreclosures crashed against communities and the broader economy." She has, in fact, called for a tax on high frequency trading, the sort of maneuvering that puts people's retirement savings at risk.

Not perfect, but smart and experienced

In general, Clinton has been fairly sympathetic to Wall Street and willing to work with it, even help it at times. This annoys some on the left. But do we really want a president who hates Wall Street, which is the engine house of our economy?

I don't think so.........................

Promises to never cut or privatize Social Security while increasing benefits to our seniors. I want a president that wants to ensure ALL Americans have health insurance. I want a president that does not support free trade agreements that only benefit rich CEOs. I want a president that has stood on the right side of civil rights for their entire career, not just when polling suggests what's more popular.
I think you get the picture.

She has a HUGE trust issue and maybe be indicted before the GE, both great reasons not to vote for her.

But certainly not all Democrats do. Why do you think the primary voting is down? Why bother most people think, Hillary is going to be crowned no matter what, the DNC, the media and the big money want her to win and they continue to cheat and lie to make it happen. Rightwing propaganda? You mean the truth about Hillary? All I know about Hillary I learned from her very own words, try it, you might find it enlightening. Oh, not the words she is saying, NOW. But, the ones she was spouting before she knew it polled poorly, you know, her real agenda.

She won't do a damn thing for the poor. Haven't we suffered enough? Or should we suffer more so you can get your woman President, no matter how much damage she'll do? She couldn't wait to go after Qaddafi (We came, we saw, he died. (Gleeful laughter)). How is that working out?

DU keeps talking about how Republicans vote against their own self interest, well Hillary is against my own self interest. Can we afford someone who will fully or partially privatize social security, slow down building infrastructure, slow down energy independence and fast track lop sided trade policies? We get that and more from this woman, and none of it is in my interest. All this is in HER own words, not Republican talking points.

Maybe there is a reason that Bernie is attracting us old hippies and the younger generation, us oldies can remember how it used to be and the youngsters dare to dream what it could be.

has been the notion that you can say absolutely anything about Hillary and it is accepted as fact!

Couple this with the rightwing strategy of repeating the innuendo and speculation over and over and over until it is perceived as "truth."

I won't dispute your unfounded assertions for the millionth time - it is pointless. The next ten commenters will just repeat them!

As I remember it, us old hippies became a lot more skeptical when it came to outlandish promises from politicians.

How it used to be - Kennedy/Johnson drafts and Viet Nam - Nixon, Reagan, Bush. Which dream are you daring?

when it comes out of her own mouth, on an unedited video? There are lots of them. She apparently thinks that all Democrats will believe every word that comes out of her mouth NOW. So was she lying then, or is she lying now?

you forgot Clinton on the list, and of course Carter. At least under Kennedy/Johnson and Nixon jobs were plentiful and fewer people lived in poverty or were homeless.

But of course a Clinton supporter wouldn't remember that little bit, if they can overlook all that she has done to this country in the past 25 years.

The Clintons changed a lot of things and not for the better. But they got theirs, and the 99% got screwed.

Remarkable!

Wouldn't being president help restrict her obvious superpowers? She does all this as First Lady, junior senator, Secretary of State - more power than any president? Astounding!

I don't associate "old hippies" with Carter and Clinton. Johnson, yes. Nixon, yes.

You were referencing better days. For who?

I was much better off in the 70's and 80's, it was easy to find a job, even with the stigma of being a woman. My sister lives in Arkansas, and it's still as backward as the Clinton's found it and left it, maybe worse.

Hillary supporters can't say she is qualified because of her past jobs, but can't fault her for her past deeds. It cuts both ways.

She's old enough to remember Vietnam, so she knows what a quagmire that was. What was her excuse for Iraq and especially Libya? We gave them their freedom? Sharia Law and woman reduced to less than a person? She only deals with the people in power, and damns any person who has none. Ask the people in Haiti how the Clintons have helped them. They built a multi-million dollar resort and hotel. The poor people who lost their homes, are still without homes, but they got used for publicity for the Clinton Foundation to collect more money. These people couldn't even get the jobs at the resort, the help got imported in.

Under Nixon and Ford? Viet Nam to start. Wage and price freezes. Watergate. The pardon. "Whip Inflation Now!"

but the schools are crap. Those kids that when to school during Clinton's tenure, can barely read or write, my sister deals with them every day.

Never had a gas line with Carter.

The rest of the stuff pales in comparison with what the Clintons achieved in the White House like NAFTA and repeal of Glass-Segal to name a few. Those things and others practically brought the whole country down. Yeah, Reagan may have started it, Bush I continued it, Clinton made it worse, and Bush II drove it home.

Clinton drove the entire Democratic party rightward, lock, stock and barrel. There are enough old time Republicans in the Democratic party to make Nixon feel welcome.

She will have to be watched very carefully if she's the president. And that's hard (re-secret trade deals, Republican nominees for advisors, not supporting progressive ideas and people) etc What a shame that so many people chose her.
