Walker's take from private school voucher backers tops $2.165 million

With the latest round of state campaign finance reports in, backers of the private school voucher program have larded the campaign accounts of politicians willing to do their bidding with $7.5 million in campaign contributions since 2008.

Leading the pack, and hauling in more than $1 of every $4 donated, is Gov. Scott Walker, with a total take in excess of $2.165 million.

Under Walker and the GOP controlled Legislature there has been a dramatic, statewide expansion of the less accountable private school voucher program.

Vouchers take resources directly away from public schools to help pay for it even though the majority of students who enrolled in the expanded program were already attending private schools.

school should be under their own responsibility as far as tuition goes.

I'd like to see a chart on how many private schools have gone under, failed to provide suitable education to their students and/or miss-used funds. I have not personally known of many private schools, but the few I did know of hired family members and/or friends who were not qualified, used school funds to pay personal expenses like clothing and beauty shop fees. One family member was 84 years old and barely able to get around.

I know of two schools that manipulated the test scores each testing period in order to pass state requirements. No shame about it, either. When I jumped one of the administrators, he said, "They all do it." That school was even being paid extra to take difficult kids from the public schools and try to teach them enough to get them through the senior year.
