Investigation finds husband was 'a blind spot' for former UW-Whitewater Chancellor Beverly Kopper

WHITEWATER – An independent investigation commissioned by the University of Wisconsin System into how administrators responded to sexual harassment allegations against Pete Hill, husband of former UW-Whitewater Chancellor Beverly Kopper, found "Hill's behavior was a blind spot for the Chancellor," according to documents obtained by the Journal Sentinel.

The investigation, run by Tom Marquardt, formerly of the FBI, and attorney Marcus Berghahn, found no direct evidence that Kopper interfered with the investigation into her husband's behavior or retaliated against the women who made allegations against him.

The investigation was completed Jan. 1, and the results were released Friday under a Journal Sentinel open records request.

There was also no direct evidence Kopper knew of or facilitated Hill's behavior, the report states. However, the investigators found Kopper did not take any steps to question her husband about the allegations before they became public.
