Related: About this forumExcuse me, but what the fock is this?
I went looking for official ward by ward results of the recall election, and when I went to the GAB website for them, I see this under 'June 5 Recall':
Election Results
Wisconsin does not have official election night results. The Associated Press gathers unofficial results, which are reported on newspaper, TV and radio websites.

Am I in crazy town? No official results? They have detailed breakdowns of the May 8 primary available right there, but there are no official results for election night?
Anyone know if they are they going to show up later, or what?
Did I read this wrong?

(16,189 posts)It is the way Americans vote. This information should be available for all to see and has in the past, been available on election night or the next day. And a typo: It's "Democratic" vision.

(63,645 posts)I would assume that there are going to be official results available to the public at some point. I have no clue how long the process takes.

(11,028 posts)The "official" might mean that the canvass hasn't happened yet and the results, while accurate, may not be certified and therefore official. At least in my small suburb, that took almost a week

(3,888 posts)the actual results will never be seen.
then they aren't even in recounts, when the counting was done by computers.

(8,514 posts)I participated in the SC recount last year. Nothing was counted by computers. In the case of touchscreen voting machines, each vote had to be hand counted. In the case of optiscan, we stood right over the shoulder of the recount officials and with a clicker counted the votes for Kloppenburg as they ran through the counter. They matched every time and kicked out potentially bad ballots for hand counting.
I know it's hard for far too many people to believe, but in this state, some of us actually got to see the "results" you are saying no one ever gets to see.
And the only response anyone ever seems to have is "who's paying you to say that?"

there are some voting machines that just print totals and have no way to recall individual votes.

(8,514 posts)Unofficial=Uncertified in this case.
We only ever get unofficial, uncertified results on election night.
It used to be the canvass was completed 2-3 days after the vote and the results of the canvass certified as official at that time.
Now that absentees are accepted through the Friday after election day, I expect the canvass and the "official" results will be certified some time next week.
The canvass, especially statewide canvasses of the election, almost always finds some discrepancies - just like when we recounted the SC race last year. The election day procedures are reviewed, precincts are accounted for and tallies are checked and results are corrected before they become official.
Edited to add that this year, the official results will include an increase in results due to post election day absentee ballots.
