Sen. Ron Johnson: 100-round rifle magazine is a ‘basic freedom’

Tea party-backed Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) says that the right to own high-capacity ammunitions magazines like the 100-round drum that was used to kill at least a dozen people in Colorado last week is a “basic freedom” that is protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Fox News host Chris Wallace on Sunday asked Johnson why people needed military-grade weapons like the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and large ammunition clips used by the shooter in Aurora, Colorado where at least 12 were killed and 58 were wounded.

“The left always uses the term ‘assault rifle,’ and they’re really talking about semi-automatic weapons that are used in hunting,” Johnson explained. “That’s what happens in Wisconsin. These are rifles that are used in hunting. Just the fact of the matter is this is really not an issue of guns. This is about sick people doing things you simply can’t prevent. It’s really an issue of freedom.”

“Does something that would limit magazines that can carry 100 rounds, would that infringe on the constitutional right?” Wallace wondered.

What is the real purpose of owning a 100 round magazine?

I can only think of one thing. Killing people.

But then, no one could have imagined them back then.

Tell him to go back to his U.S. Constitution class and reread the Second Amendment WORD FOR WORD.

As passed by the Congress:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Apparently Holmes is not in a well-regulated milita.

Just because a bunch of people use them for hunting doesn't mean it wasn't designed for combat.

Semi-auto rifles designed for hunting look like this:

They are selective fire and the difference is important.

Take for example the Ruger Mini-14. Its a ranch rifle. Handy carbine with a wood stock, often a small scope. Its not considered an assault rifle, even in California. But:
- It fires the .223 round
- Has all sizes of magazines available for it, including snail drums.
- It can be dressed up to look scary.

If you want to base original design/intent as the reason for banning things, be prepared to give up a whole lot of stuff from GPS to the tin can.

All the deer go to the theater for a midnight showing of Bambi, and a Wisconsin hunter comes in and shoots to kill as many as possible.

So I expect the GOP to fund a welfare bill to make sure we are all guaranteed this freedom without discrimination due to economic hard times.

With sufficient rounds and a working knowledge of how to fire a gun, this will put that bothersome whine of 'where are the jobs' to rest for good. Think of the inequality that would be relieved by everyone having the right to point a gun in someone else's face. Let's bring these guns to the banks.

With sufficient guns, we can overcome the banking lobby in the bank lobby. Occupy, please take note!

I mean I know that freedom isn't free, but if it s 'basic' that means everyone. And if it's a freedom, it's good for all, all the time and everywhere, like fresh air scented with the fragrance of gunpowder. Or is that napalm?

See, I can push this bullshiite as good as any bagger.

Apply smilie liberally as needed.

This post was not intended to offend anyone but Republicans.

Who are now the real enemy of our nation, according to Michelle Bachmann in the post in GD. I'm still from that.

I will delete it if someone wants me to do so.
