“Get out of your cushy office and take a look around”: A rural Wisconsinite’s open letter to

Party Chair Mike Tate

"You hung us out to dry the last election, and now we are stuck with Tiffany and Czaja and Duffy and a whole bunch of stupid puppets that are voting lock-step in line with Walker. If you would have at least given us some signs, some literature, some turf to canvas, or even a database we could use to help stay connected with one another after the fierce “boots on the ground” dedication from the recall, I know we could have done better. Up here, all people see are TV news (which even the court has declared is not news, but entertainment) and TV commercials. We need to be able to speak to people door-to-door and to have physical paper signs to put in our yards so people know where we stand and talk to one another about it.

Oh yeah, you sent us some OFA folks…you might as well have sent us a box of
rocks. The one we had sat on his ass and put statistics in a computer every single time he came to Tomahawk. From what I understand, the others in Merrill and Rhinelander and Stevens Point and Minocqua were the same. After your cute little bus tour, the idiots didn’t even have the lists of folks who attended for us to contact! They wanted us to invite out friends to house parties and then turn the statistics over to them. We finally asked them not to come into our community because we did better without them.

Older people do not do FaceBook. Older people do not Twitter. In truth, outside of Tomahawk and north of us, people do not even have Broadband! (No thanks to Scotty who has probably planned it that way.) Have you tried to use the internet on dial-up lately? So, the idea that the computer is going to do it up here is false. And yes, we did make our own signs and we did steal lists from the resources we had from the recall, but really…you keep sending me requests for money. Really. I bought paper and paint and gas so I could go out in the country and talk to people. What the heck did you do for us?!!! Nothing.

So get out of your cushy office and take a look around. Wisconsin is headed to the bottom like a rock tossed into a lake. My Plan A is to fight. My Plan B is to leave this state. My plan C is to leave this country."

we do have this nice little forum to use at du

if you have no signs or lit perhaps some from down here in the south could mysteriously move north

perhaps the chairs association could actually hold some folks feet to the fire

folks travel around the state all the damn time-perhaps we would attend a fundraiser or 2 if we knew about it

oh and DOCUMENT the lack of broadband--folks around here don't believe me.....

"Most of us in rural counties have adapted. We don’t expect the cell phone to work and we don’t bother calling cell numbers for rural neighbors. But what happens if you pick up the old landline and it’s dead?"

"According to the National Regulatory Research Institute, Wisconsin was one of 21 states that deregulated phone companies between 2010 and April 2012. The study detailed similar legislation pending in another 14 states. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a corporate “bill mill”, is a driving force behind telephone deregulation.
The predominant carrier in Wisconsin, AT&T, lobbied for the deregulation bill that passed early in 2011. One provision of the new law ended the 100-year-old agreement between customers and the utility that brought reliable phone service to every part of Wisconsin.
When the deregulation bill was debated in the Senate I authored several amendments to protect consumers including one to keep the requirement for the “provider of last resort.” This meant if no other phone company provided service for you, your local phone company couldn’t come in and pull the plug."

Pneumatic tube mail delivery, the wave of the future.

http://untappedcities.com/2013/03/15/nycs-pneumatic-tube-mail-network/

Then Pony Express riders can speedily deliver the alarms
on fast horses, fleet as the wind. Just like Paul Revere.

The Teapublicans will all eat it up, cuz you can't get much more American
than Paul Revere and the Pony Express.

....and Verizon's lobbyists will pay off enough of the Republican Legislators
in the state, to guarantee themselves a hefty profit.

towers

quite frankly I was surprised at this as lots of wealthier areas have had pretty good luck in keeping cell towers away.

guess the thugs were more concerned about keeping the corps happy.

I guess the budget bill was also about their campaign budgets besides the state stuff

...under the sub-title or sub-heading, "Eye on ALEC"

http://billmoyers.com/2013/07/23/the-end-of-the-wireline/

Chief among the model bills are ALEC’s Regulatory Modernization Act, which allows service providers to elect whether or not they would like to partake in state regulation, which is a little like asking students to elect whether or not they would like to partake in homework. The bill was approved by ALEC’s board of directors in 2009. In the ensuing three years, according to a 2010-2012 “Telecommunications Deregulation” report issued by the National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI), more than 30 states have considered and/or passed laws eliminating or restricting government oversight and basic service requirements. Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Wisconsin are just a few to have passed deregulation legislation in the past three years. In each of these states, AT&T is a primary service provider. And in each of these states, a confirmed ALEC member was responsible for introducing the bill.
