Abbott's great achievement for women ...

In an interview with Channel Nine’s The Today Show, host Lisa Wilkinson asked Mr Abbott what he thought was his biggest achievement as the country’s Minister for Women.

"Well, you know, it is very important to do the right thing by families and households," Mr Abbott said. "As many of us know, women are particularly focused on the household budget and the repeal of the carbon tax means a $550 a year benefit for the average family."

Well, women are now having their say via Twitter - top trend this week has been reactions to Mr Abbott's statement, which proved that he's still the same unreconstructed neanderthal he always was.

Here's one doing the rounds:

"Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott did it again. He is "under fire" for allegedly sexist remarks delivered while defending his record of reforms and cuts. In the wake of a cabinet reshuffle to boost his flagging government (and low approval ratings), Abbott hailed the success of his controversial repeal of the country's carbon tax, a move that was panned by environmental campaigners and other critics of the conservative premier."
