NDP urges probe into whether Stephen Harper told truth on Senate scandal

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was accused in Parliament on Thursday of misleading the House of Commons last June about how deeply the Senate expense scandal involving Sen. Mike Duffy reached into his own office.

The NDP has asked Speaker Andrew Scheer for a preliminary ruling on whether Harper is in contempt of Parliament for telling MPs that his former chief of staff, Nigel Wright, acted alone in giving $90,000 to Duffy.

Harper, en route to Brussels to announce a free-trade deal with Europe, was not in the Commons on Thursday. But the scandal was put on the front burner within minutes of MPs taking their seats, and threatens to only grow worse.
