Bob Rae to be allowed to run in Liberal leadership race

Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae will be permitted to run in his party's leadership race and he is expected to enter the race, CBC News has learned.

Rae took on the job as interim leader a year ago and the party's national executive made him promise he wouldn't use that position to help him launch a bid for the permanent leadership.

But now the executive says they will "bring clarity" to explain how he can enter the race, the CBC's Hannah Thibedeau reported.

Party President Mike Crawley said a motion will be presented next Wednesday "to clarify how Rae could put himself forward as a candidate."

On one hand, I must admit, that he had done an excellent job opposing the Conservatives, while the NDP were getting their shit together. I personally like the guy, and he seems quite sensible and certainly bright. On those merits, he'd make a a good leader for the Liberal party.

But thats where the problems start. I cannot see Quebec choosing him over Mulcair. I think his brand is still Toxic in Ontario. He may not the best choice to re-brand the Liberal party as a whole. So in that regard, I hope that they do choose him, and I hope the Liberals FAIL Miserably.

As a solid NDP supporter, I believe that our time is soon to come. Just like in the States, our centre has shifted so far right over the last 30 years, that there is nothing centrist about the Liberal party. They are just friendlier PC's. The Liberal party since Chretien onward have continued to be crony-infested, scandalous, neo-liberal, free trading, globalists, and equally entwined with corporate interests and establishment media as the Conservatives. We need a real change. Both the Cons and Libs have steadily eroded the quality of life in Canada since the mid eighties. Its time for the pendulum to swing back to the real left.
