http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/07/29/milk_in_teapot_debate/El Reg towers was plunged into internal strife today, with the production desk struggling to keep the news production line humming as senior editors were forced to launch an investigation into the question that has split the editorial team down the middle: is it acceptable to add the milk to the tea pot?
The rift opened up at approximately 10.20am here in our London HQ. A member of the team offered to make a pot of tea. Before we knew it, said team member had placed a pot, mugs and sugar on a vacant desk.
The rest of the office savoured the soothing aroma of steeping leaves, wafting across the room on an unexpected gentle breeze as the air conditioning system staged one of its sporadic bursts into life.
Then the bombshell: Teas brewing. The milks already in the pot.

(101,361 posts)Because no one wants the last dregs from the pot, so you've had to add extra milk. Plus the milk that will be absorbed by the tea leaves.
And then you've assumed every takes milk, and everyone takes the same amount.

(111,339 posts)I'm lactose intolerant and milk is horrible stuff, especially in a very nice drink like tea. Strong black tea can take a little sweetener but that's all it ever needs.
Anybody who does this to me is going to have to drink the whole pot, solo.

(10,303 posts)An abomination. Add milk afterwards. It helps compensate for over/under brewing the tea... less milk for weak tea, more for strong. If you put it in beforehand it doesn't work as well.
