Theresa May warns of creeping 'protectionism' after Trumps US hits Bombardier with tariffs

Theresa May has warned of “protectionism creeping in” around the world after Donald Trump’s US Government hit a British-based manufacturer with huge punitive tariffs....

Ms May demanded world leaders who believe in free trade “stand up” and explain its benefits to people disillusioned with free markets, with US Government action against overseas firms increasing...

It comes amid the fallout of Boeing’s decision to pursue a complaint which led the US Government to implement punitive import tariffs on the sale of jets by Belfast-based Bombardier.

The decision has thrown a question over Ms May’s Brexit strategy of securing a major trade deal with the US to help replace lost trade with the EU following withdrawal.

I helped build that plane and could tell you exactly which parts were built in Belfast.

The Québec and Canadian governments won't take this one lying down either. We don't give a shit how butthurt Boeing is.

That's a wee bit comforting. I hope none of her aides have, either.

Doesn't look like the Daily Mail has.

Trump's aides, however ...

Use Brexit to steal UK trade, says Trump aide
December 26 2016

Donald Trump’s trade chief has urged Britain’s rivals to exploit the “God-given opportunity” of Brexit to steal business from the UK.

Wilbur Ross, the billionaire incoming commerce secretary, has the task of striking a free trade deal with Britain. His comments will increase fears that the US will seek to take advantage of British isolation after its departure from the European Union.

Brexiteers such as Iain Duncan Smith and Jacob Rees-Mogg have asserted that Britain is well placed to secure a free trade agreement with the US, our largest single trading partner.

However, the remarks from Mr Ross suggest that US negotiators will seek to exploit Brexit uncertainty to tempt financial companies away from London.

It's abysmal with President Fart at the helm, and outside the EU we are powerless to challenge bad US trade policies.

So much for the lies about "taking back control".
