I feel sorry for Murray, even though I'd rather chew off my own foot than sit through a tennis match.
But the thought of that smug asshole Cameron spending his afternoon waiting to bask in reflected glory and give the people a nice soundbite about how Britain Can Do It Against The Odds - and getting nowt, as usual - does my old heart good.
Nick, Gideon, Andy - they all let you down, eh, Dave?

For our cousins - you'd probably need to be UK to understand that.

(2,863 posts)I am another one who finds watching tennis marginally less enticing than sticking rusty pins in my eyes. Nonetheless I did have a quick look at the betting on this match and noticed that our friends the bookmakers seemed very keen to take bets on Murray which usually means that they expect him lose. The bare stats actually show that Murray has quite a good record against Federer but they are a bit misleading as when they have met in Grand Slams Federer has nearly always won. Anyway it was good to see Cameron denied the chance of gloating over a British sporting victory to which he and indeed the whole of British tennis would have contributed nothing. In fact any Murray victory would be more a triumph for his Mum and the Spanish youth coaching system.
I actually feel a little sorry for Murray having to put up with this crap when in reality all he wants to be is a successful professional sportman.

(14,738 posts)I can't play tennis for toffee but hey ho. Wasn't able to watch the final yesterday but well done to Murray for getting there.
Also, well done to Jonathan Marray for winning the men's doubles. Another Sheffielder coming up trumps, although I doubt that Sheffield council will milk that one quite as much as they do with Jessica Ennis.
Also, is there anybody on here who actually approves of London staging the Olympics? Lots of anti-Olympic sentiment on here, and I for one never wanted the games being hosted in the UK but is anyone on here actually looking forward to the Olympics.

(4,972 posts)Usually the Olympics just leave me cold, but having all the hype, chicanery, chaos, over-spending, faux amateurism and commercial rip-offs - not to mention the never-ending saga of Hitler's Giant Cigarette Lighter - here in the good ol' U of K has just made it all the more objectionable.
The fact that it's apparetly going to piss down from on high during the whole sorry spectacle (this is bloody Ingerlund after all!) simply stokes my schadenfreude.
If it's any consolation, Mrs Skin tells me she'll be watching the equestrian and gymnastics events.
