I HATE people like this!

This is Dr Philip Lee, a Tory MP, talking about how people who get supposedly 'lifestyle' diseases such as type 2 diabetes should have to pay more for their healthcare, in favour of the 'truly deserving'. He is a (presumably former) GP at that. I pity his patients!

Of course Cristina Odone has enthusiastically endorsed his views in the Torygraph.

Fortunately, not all Tories yet share these views. Philip Hammond opposes it, for example.

As far as I'm concerned, there should be a special place in hell for those who recommend harshness and judgementalism toward sick or disabled people. And as always, this will have its worst effect on those who are also poor - who may therefore deprive themselves of necessary treatment.

up to 20 years younger than me, and obese (as I am) and were on meds for diabetes. I am in good health. One morning I was eating my Bob's Red Mill whole grain cereal with yogurt. They all said "Ewww, what are you eating?" I said "whole grain cereal, supposed to prevent diabetes, high blood pressure...etc" One of them said "Isn't that like just putting a band-aid over the problem?" meaning, if you really want to fix a problem like diabetes, you take some pills, get a monitor, take shots and whatever the doctor tells you to do.
