Unfortunately, I don't know enough about most of the newer MPs to have a good feel for who would do best. In my experience, effective politicians rarely have the right ideas and aims, and politicians who have the right ideas and aims are rarely very effective. It's all well and good removing somebody like Liam Byrne, but if he's replaced by somebody like Simon Danczuk then we are back where we started or even going backwards.

Alexander? Didn't like him at first due to his support for the Iraq War, but he was IMO a pretty good shadow Secretary for Work and Pensions. As Shadow Foreign Secretary, he seems to have been surprisingly invisible.
