The UK Independence Party would not scrap Trident, Nigel Farage has said, describing the manifesto that contained the policy as "drivel"....
Among other things, the manifesto called for taxi drivers to be required to wear uniforms, for British weights and measures to be "safeguarded" and for the burka to be banned in public buildings.
Mr Farage is understood to have fallen out with the main author of the manifesto, David Campbell Bannerman - an MEP who has since rejoined the Conservative Party.
"I didn't read it. It was drivel. It was 486 pages of drivel...It was a nonsense. We have put that behind us and moved onto a professional footing."

(14,738 posts)I went to a hustings meeting in 2010 where the UKIP candidate was quite happy to read large parts of the UKIP manifesto out verbatim in response to questions.
The Lib Dem candidate was even more reliant on simply reading out the party manifesto. Suffice to say that it was not a hustings that gave me any confidence that British democracy is in safe hands.
So regardless of what the Farage fanboys you see on many websites may say, stuff like this does matter, especially when you see the bad policies governments do put in place from party manifestos.

Given the mood of Joe Public at the moment, the latter is probably their best option.

(14,738 posts)They have clearly spent a lot of money on the Euro elections and most of their message seems to be sensationalist anti-immigrant tripe.
And there are a fair few other far right factions on the EU ballot paper all trying to out bigot each other as well. It's very depressing for those of us who aren't consumed with hatred, loathing and spite.

Fortunately, their Freepost was still operative then so they got it back at their own expense.
