In-ger-land are looking down and out (World Cup)

I found myself wanting Uruguay to win last night. I'm sick of the biennial displays of obnoxious mindless nationalism that accompanies major international football tournaments.

ITV's coverage is understandably biased given its audience, but it seems to stray into outright unprofessionalism. It seems to represent on screen that sense-of-entitlement attitude that is also endemic in the print media, that England should win every game and win every tournament.

At least that's how the guys on ESPN rationalized the loss.

....can make me start rooting for a team with Luis Suarez in it.

ITV Sport have obsessed over England's to the exclusion of everything else at major international football tournaments for some time now. And the dead tree press seem to be getting worse in this regard.

However, there is noticeably less mindless nationalism on display this year then there was a few years ago. Possibly because the current England team were never really considered to have much chance in the first place.

One thing I don't like however, is the current kneejerk shouts for Roy Hodgson to go. I really don't think replacing the manager is going to make much difference for us at the moment.

I only saw the last third of the game as I was teaching last night (I wasn't inspired to watch the rest on +1 so missed the Rooney goal).

I wonder if "a sense of fair play" will be one of Gove's compulsory British Values? If so, the Thought Police will have their work cut out during International tournaments ...
