Tory Peter Cruddas sold access to PM, Sunday Times alleges

Conservative Party co-treasurer Peter Cruddas offered access to the prime minister and chancellor for £250,000, the Sunday Times has alleged.

It has recorded footage which shows him apparently making the offer to undercover reporters.

London-based Mr Cruddas was appointed Tory co-treasurer in June 2011 and is the founder of online trading company Currency Management Consultants Ltd.

"Two hundred grand to 250 is Premier League… what you would get is, when we talk about your donations the first thing we want to do is get you at the Cameron/Osborne dinners," he says.

What does it cost to get him and Cameron to go 'all the way'.

Interesting that the Murdoch press broke the story. Payback ?

The Tory Party can be ruthless with their own when they fail.

Anyone would think we've gone back to the 1990's, the decade that many Conservatives have difficulty accepting ever existed.

The government has insisted that it will not disclose details of private meetings between David Cameron and Conservative party donors in the wake of claims by the party's treasurer that large cash payments could secure intimate dinners with the prime minister.

Francis Maude, the Cabinet Office minister, said demands for lists of visitors to Cameron's flat in Downing Street were unreasonable, but insisted the party had nothing to hide.

If there is nothing to hide why do we have to guess who has come to dinner ?

Interesting that it is Maude who is mounting the defence as he is the Minister with oversight of all those lovely government privatisation contracts. One wonders how many of those who bought themselves and evening of fun with Dave and Sam ended up as winning bidders.

Also worth noting that this scandal is playing just as badly across many areas of the Tory Press as last weeks Budget . The negative feedback includes the Telegraph and the Spectator which are Tory party House papers. They instinctively know this is not going to go down well with midde and lower middle class Tory voters who just got lumbered with paying for the 5p in the pound tax cut that Dave and George millionaire dinner guests have just received. I think it is beginning to dawn on some of the Tory faithful that they chose the wrong man as leader.

5. David Cameron to publish list of all donors dining at No 10

David Cameron has said he will publish details of all donors he has had dinner with in his Downing Street flat.

The prime minister said there had been four occasions in which he had invited donors to No 10 - most of whom were friends.

All meals attended by Conservative donors will now be published on a quarterly basis.

Even though the supposed money offered was from a foreign wealth fund managed in Lichtenstein on behalf of clients in the Middle East, Cruddas suggested a subsidiary company could be set up in the UK to donate the cash – thereby bypassing laws which ban foreign donations.

Which I don't think should be forgotten, with them starting to say "Cruddas never asked Cameron to talk to anyone". They were still using sneaky ways to get foreign donations when they're not meant to.

considering Maudes insistence this morning that the details would remain private. Clearly they are rattled. The assumption must be that press already have the names so trying to tough it out is not going to work. There is also the issue that the media may have more dirt to dish as Murdoch is clearly out for revenge. I dont really understand why the Tories need to prostitute themselves in this way to get funding from big business since the money from that source flows to them naturally.

Events in the past week have made both Cameron and Osborne appear out of touch with ordinary people in a way that even Thatcher and Major even at their most unpopular never managed. I thought having toffs at the top was supposed to lend an element of class to the government. Instead we have the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer of Great Britain being pimped like a couple of rent boys.
