Here's a secret they don't want you to know. Election Day doesn't really matter. Voting doesn't really matter. The only thing that matters is $$$. Here we are, 7 months away from Election Day. It is a Sunday at noon and I already have 7 emails in my inbox pleading for money. Money for this candidate, money for that candidate, money for the Democratic Party, money for this PAC, money for that PAC. Apparently the only way our candidates can get elected is if we raise more money than they do. SEVEN MONTHS!
And no matter how much you donate:
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yah.
So, my friends, stick a fork in us, we're done. The 1% and the corporations can outspend us no matter how much we give and they will. For Big Money politics is a great investment. You give $1 Mil and save $10 Mil on your taxes. You get together and spend $100 Mil and you get TPP or Keystone. I give $50 or $100 and since my only income is Social Security I get bupkis.
And where is the famous backlash? Against no unemployment. No Food Stamps. No Veterans Benefits. No pensions. Voter suppression. Crumbling infrastructure. Disappearing Middle Class.
Evidently, for the majority of people who actually go to the polls, this is what we, as a nation, want. We elect them - over and over again and they NEVER pay the price for screwing us over:
I learned our Government must be strong;
It's always right and never wrong;
Our leaders are the finest men
And we elect them again and again.

(4,033 posts)Dude, I've been a Progressive for over 50 years. I helped register black voters in the 60's, got tear gassed for demonstrating against the Viet Nam war, have phonebanked, spent election days driving voters to and from the polls, and gone door-to-door. So you can take your bloody name calling and put it where the sun don't shine.
Am I pissed about Citizens United? You better believe I am. Am I pissed abut the corrupt corporate whores on the Supreme Court and in Congress? Yeah, I am. Am I pissed about Obama not learning from Bill Clinton and trying to push the TPP through behond closed doors? Hell yes.
Where in my post did I say I was going to sit out this election? I didn't. But I sure as Hell despair for my country when I see the same dip shits elected over and over again and turning around and screwing over the people who voted them into office knowing that their voters are so damn dumb that the'll reelect them again just because FOX tells them to.
So, I want to vent, I'll vent and you have the gall to call me a Right Wing Troll. Sheesch.

(45,105 posts)I would like to have public financing for politicians and do away with this other crap. That would cut down on the misinformation that they could afford to put all over radio and TV and give them time to do the work they are elected to do.

(37 posts)If you offer to public finance elections, how do you decide who gets the financing when 10 people apply? If you only give it to the top 3 signature getters, then the corporate people will help them get the signatures. You will need their help once again, only this time it will be the tax payers footing the bill for the corporations.

(574 posts)political territory, which I'm not in favor of.
You're pissed, and I get that. I'm pissed off, too. And I have no money. The Koch brothers, the Wall street barons, against the flood of begging e-mails I get from deserving candidates being outspent. That pisses me off big time. But I'm only me, with a car old enough to vote, and I can sleep in my car and volunteer. Putting boots on the ground is an amazingly cathartic experience, espeically when I'm in a pair of those boots. (Actually, sneakers I bought too cheaply.)
Yes, there's money, and broadcast money, and now, the Koch brothers are starting field offices to put their own boots on the ground. It's a losing game, but do you want to win, or do you want to fight? From a discussion I haven't published yet.
More importantly, WHO ARE YOU? Are you someone who is going to sit around the Generic-Progressive-Web-Based-Circle-Jerk about who we are supposed ro like or not like? Or are you someone who says, "Yeah, motherfucker, I'll put you in office, and you toe the line or you're gonna be so out of office, SO FAST that Fox "news" isn't going to find out how to hire you for two weeks!"
There's money, and there's boots on the ground. The French Revolutionaries had no money, no media support, just boots on the ground. I'd really rather not see that happen around here. So, I'm left with; "Who are you? Where are you? what races are coming up for you on November? Are there people you want to see in November having primaries, like, NOW?
What are you going to do, Stonepounder, to GOTV in November?

(14,255 posts)Yesterday Alan Grayson asked me for money because someone called him a boogersnot (or something similar).
Today Harry Reid asked me for money because Sarah Palin "berated" him.
And the elections are a ways off - the money part of politics is getting fucking ridiculous. What does it even buy?
