Need help with my Galaxy S3

Hello all, I have a bit of a strange problem with my Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile.

A few weeks ago, it stopped checking my Yahoo mail automatically. I have to check it manually by hitting the "refresh" button. Not a huge deal, but it can be irritating to miss time-sensitive things.

The odd part is that I've been all through my phone's menus, both in the phone's settings as well as the mail setting, and can't seem to find any sort of setting anymore that would allow me to change the frequency of email checks. I seem to recall such a thing existed when I first set up the phone, but there is no setting that I can find that I can change back to automatic checks!

Anybody have any advice?

The Android version I have is a bit different, but it led me to find out the problem... my "Master Sync" wasn't turned on. And I couldn't find where to turn it on! The schedule for my Yahoo mail was set to check every hour, but it would not sync automatically. My two Gmail accounts also were not synching.

Finally, a Google search led me to what I believe happened...

At the beginning of April, I think, my phone went into power-saving mode... which turns off the Master Sync to save power. I was not able to find how to turn on Master Sync... because it's one of the customizable buttons that you can drag down from the top of the screen!

It's up there with WiFi, Driving Mode, Sound, BlueTooth, Screen Rotation, Airplane Mode, etc. Well, I had removed it from the visible menu a while ago, so when it was turned off, I NEVER KNEW IT.

So here's how I fixed it...

Drag down the system menu from the top of the screen.

Touch the gear icon that is the "Settings" menu.

Touch "Display"

Touch "Notification panel".

Find the "Sync" icon, and touch-and-drag it from "Available buttons" to "Notification panel". The icons are listed in the order they're shown... the top row will be right there when you drag down the system menu, and everything else will be seen by scrolling to the right.

Now just back out to your home screen, drag down system menu, find "Sync", and make sure it's lit up!

Thanks for your help!

I have two recollections of what fixed it, I hope one is right:

1. I had deleted the account from my phone and recreated it.
2. I turned on sync for the account from within the email app, not through the normal accounts settings in the settings area.

Good luck!
