Looking for a free website that will be able to be locked to everyone w/o a password.
I volunteer for a Food Bank and help them with their website. The website doesn't have the capability of locking any of our pages to password only. I asked the host but they want development fees. I want to be able to post confidential infor that only the Board of Directors can see via password. Any ideas?

(10,136 posts)you can create directories that are limited to certain users. Your web server should automatically prompt for a username and password when attempting to access these directories.
This would be outside your website software and easily maintained by your system admins.

(34,589 posts)You can assign users to groups, and I believe that you can then set which groups have access to which areas of the site. Wordpress is probably the most popular tool for this kind of thing, it's good, free, and easy to use.
Key thing is to update it regularly, so you get fixes for security defects, but that's easy to do. Let me know if ai can be helpful.

I mean this is really basic and part of every web server I have ever heard of...for that matter if you have access you could install wiki and have a secured wiki page.

basically editing http.conf and .htaccess will set you up a password protected secured directory
It only takes a couple minutes to do.

(55,981 posts)Looks like all participants must use Google mail for the most secure access, but also available is the secret, shared URL method. Thanks for letting me know. I will look into this.
