I'm getting a lot of problems with Firefox only on DU

Scripts mainly, plus having to double click links and slow scrolling. I figure the scrip problem may be caused by advertising. I recently did a big windows 7 update, but it didn't help. Updated Java etc. Would the star membership help? I'm retired s/w but need step by step instructions when working on PCs. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

PS. I'm currently writing this on IE and had it interrupted by a "long running scrip". In the meantime, my Firefox with only a DU page opened is frozen (not responding).

I'm running windows 7, IE10, Firefox 36.0.4, Microsoft Security Essentials. Just now my Firefox decided to update itself. This has never helped before. FYI, my wife has the same laptop, LENOVO, and her's doesn't have these problems even when I open DU on it.

Most times when it is only one site giving you problems it is related to one of those two items.

Got to the three bars at the far right of FF and select History. Choose Clear History. Then select cookies and cache from the boxes. In the drop down box select Everything. Then hit Clear Now.

I run FF Nightly build and so I occasionally get script errors but the next day's update usually takes care of it.

If you think it is advertising related, do you use Adblock or are all the ads showing on DU?

https://adblockplus.org/ (free, open public license)
https://www.malwarebytes.org/ (limited version is free, run a scan weekly, maybe a fast/limited scan daily)

Over the years I've used so many different applications on all our previous PCs and MS seems to be the best so far. I went with it because I couldn't stream anything decently. Got rid of what I had (I think MacAfee) and switched to MS.

for years, pretty much whatever platform I was using.

MalWareBytes is definitely compatible. The free version doesn't block malware in real time, but you can scan your disk with it when you have problems, and remove any malware you find. MWB has a reputation for often being ahead of MS.

but you can get a star membership for as little as a dollar donation. Worth the lack of advertising.

Download firefox, IE is a piece of crap. Also run malware bytes, to check for malware.

Since my Firefox just updated with no improvement, I'll take the rest of the advice and get the Star Membership and try the ad blockers.

I paid for a Star Membership. I haven't donated in quite some time so I was happy to do so. Looks like the ads on DU were the problem. My Firefox and IE work fine. I usually log on to DU whenever I'm online so it was always causing problems. Thanks.

If FF is your main browser then AdBlock is definitely worth trying out, anyway. It is just an extension/addon that is simply removed if you don't like it. I've used it for years and can't imagine browsing even the most trusted sites without it. I don't mind a few ads around the edges but those flashing ones really annoy me.

Tremendous improvement. Our DSL line is very slow so any extra data to download is a killer. Lately it's been slower than our old dial up service. Now it's like greased lightning. Again I want to thank you and the others who helped me here. I will be recommending it to my buddies.
