Media Center won’t be available in Windows 10

Q: I’m concerned about features I’ve heard will be left out of the upcoming Windows 10. I’m particularly concerned about reports that I’ll have to get new drivers for my USB floppy drive and that Media Center won’t be available.

A: Yes, it’s true that Media Center won’t be available in Windows 10.

We should have seen this one coming, since Microsoft stopped developing Media Center in 2009, and it was available in Windows 8 only via a purchased download.

And, yes, initially Windows 10 will not include a built-in app that can play movie DVDs. However, while I have not been able to confirm this directly with Microsoft, some sources are reporting that Microsoft has said it will deliver a way to play movie DVDs soon.

I have WMP open right now, version 12.10240.16384. I only use WMP very rarely for giggles.

Most do not have one, to save space, weight and cost. Streaming apps are pushing DVDs the way of VHS tapes.
