I need a decent quality USB microphone

So... the company deployed a stupid VOIP system over Thanksgiving. It seems to work okay in the office where it's linked to real phones but using the "virtual phone" on our laptops outside of the office is absolutely agonizing. IT gave me a bluetooth headset but interference seems to be an intractable problem. So I have basically been reduced to shouting at the built-in microphone six inches from the screen. When you plug an analog microphone into the jack it captures nothing but a low hum, IT insists it will work with a cell phone style wired headset but I don't have one of those handy.

I see a lot of court reporters use this little USB microphone that a has the traditional mesh looking bulb that folds out and just sits on the table, but I have no idea what it is called. I don't want to say it looks like a mesh boob, but it looks like a mesh boob.

Any suggestions or any ideas what the "mesh boob" I am describing is called?

I found someone in the office this week and got them to turn on call forwarding from my desk, but that isn't a long-term solution.
