Need new desktop - must buy this time, not build

Hi there,
I used to build my machines but now because of time and because my computer buddy has died, I guess I need to buy off the shelf.

I'm looking for a basic machine, to max out ram, 64-bit, a couple of DVD writers and a couple of hard drives. I don't do WiFi so just need a standard LAN connection. Since I do Photoshop, I need a good video card.

Any suggestions where to look? I built my last computer in 2006 and it's still going strong but it's Widoze 7.

Thanks!

Paula

My suggestion would be to go to a local mom and pop computer shop and have them build one for you Egnever Jan 2016 #2
If you were near Austin, I could build it for you no problem. hobbit709 Jan 2016 #3

HP Desktop Computer ENVY Phoenix 860-010
Intel Core i7 6700 (3.4 GHz)
16 GB DDR4
2 TB HDD
128 GB SSD
Windows 10 Home

The DDR4 RAM is the latest and I would pick a PC that has or at least is compatible.
If you have a price constraint please post it.

...considering the info from Egnever down thread, HP wouldn't be the choice for anyone who valued support from the manufacturer. Large orgs or any that that do their own support may like HP but I've used Dell PCs and they are often easier to work on.

You are going to find it very difficult to find a pre uilt machine with multiple hard drives and DVD writers. That or order direct from Dell and configure it the way you want it.

I would stay far far away from HP if I were you. HP has the highest fai!ure rate in the industry and their tech support is horrible as well.

you'll be significantly better off ordering the parts and taking them to a local PC repair place to have them assemble it for you (which they should be able to do for $20-40 or so). What sort of price range are you looking at? Knowing that would probably help in making suggestions (for instance, an Intel i3 dual-core CPU would be a bit cheaper than an i5, but less "future-proofed", also).
