A shortcut icon that looks like a small white rectangle with a blue bar at the top, instead of
a Hawk or whatever it is supposed to look like, what does that mean?
(These shortcuts usually don't work, either.)

right click the shortcut and choose properties. What is it pointing to?

one of the computers at work which has been having issues was
displaying shortcuts like this. So it will be a few days before I can get back
about this.
I looked for an image on the Internet but couldn't find one.

(47,675 posts)4. Take a screen shot (fn-prt sc) and paste it into Paint - then crop it.
Copy it to a thumb drive and bring it home.

It is a shortcut that points to a file that Windows cannot find the application for opening the file.
