How do I log onto my existing Gmail account on my Chromebook?

When I click on to Gmail on Google I only get the choice to create a new account and not log onto my existing account. The same happens when I to to Gmail.com with the only choice is to create a new account.

When I’m logged on to my Chromebook I’m automatically logged on to Google and G-mail. When I click on the G- mail app icon I get access without logging in directly to it. (G-mail icon is the big colorful M.)

with no option to simply log on to my existing account, a method that I've used literally decades for this account. I can, however, log on to Gmail on my cell phone, but it takes forever for me to hunt and peck a message. I have restarted my Chromebook with no luck.

I was able to sign into gmail using Incognito mode. Why it doesn't work otherwise, I have no idea. When in Incognito, if I click on the Chromebook Gmail icon it takes me to the site to open a new Gmail account but not to sign into my existing account. Where it says "sign in" and I enter my Gmail address it just says "this account already exists". Again, ???
